Announcement of our campaign on the YHGs

Hello everybody!

We have been observing rho Cas since February 2018 and have decided to launch an observation campaign on this star.

We are Christoph Quandt and Malin Moll and doing spectroscopy since two years. We are currently using the LHires III spectrograph and have tried to find a star that is circumpolar and bright enough for our equipment. With rho Cas we have found an interesting one!

There are not many known Yellow Hypergiants (YHGs) in our galaxy and their behavior is not yet well understood. These stars pulsate between the spectral classes FGK and when they reach a temperature above 7000K they can suffer an eruption with a high mass loss rate. The most common indicator of their pulsation is temperature, so we have developed a thermometer with stars whose temperature is known from the ELODIE and UVES databases.

Now we want to appeal for our observation campaign! For further information please read the announcement on this page or in the VdS forum.
